We booked Discomania of Nottingham for our wedding evening disco in Septemnber this year. Telephone contact/e-mails beforehand were positive and professional, so we went into the big day itself with no fears about Discomania not putting on anything other than a great music night for us. Sadly, things didn't turn out that way. About half an hour before the DJ was due to start the disco, a message was passed to us (not from him in person) from staff at the hall that he'd had to leave due to a fault with his equipment and would be back as soon as he could. Luckily, I'd taken time and effort to source music for two CDs the DJ was meant to play on his system (introducing tracks etc) and then move on to request from the guests/his own stuff etc. Without those discs, the guests would have miming their dance steps to complete silence. Anyway, this farce went on for nearly two and three quarter hours (his journey by car was from Brooksby Hall to Nottingham and back), with the Discomania DJ eventually reappearing at nearly 22:00 hrs. Not a sorry was to be had from him, nor was a proper explanation forthcoming from him as to why somebody else couldn't have attended with spare equipment and why it had taken him so long and with so little communication to do God knows what. He should have checked his laptop and speakers were working before he set out to the venue and then double-checked again. On the night itself, like a fool, but a nice fool, I was prepared to forgive and forget and was pleasant enough to the DJ, but my wife was in no mood to be so friendly and at about 23:45 hrs she told him in no uncertain to sling his 'ook, which he promptly did do. Subsequently, I e-mailed the owner of the firm and demanded a refund and an explanation of what had gone on. In fairness, she responded quickly (though, I had to make contact first) sent us £200 of our £250 booking fee back in the form of a cheque. No letter of apology came with it and my two CDs and track playlists the DJ used when he was actually being a DJ have not been returned to us, despite me requested this. All in all, a very, very poor experience in terms of what was agreed in the contract and the reality on the night.
