Mick Penney is one of the last old time music shop owners. The biggest problem is that once you are in his Alladin's cave there is a lot to be discovered, albeit cunningly hidden. I must confess I have got to know Mick as a customer and I know he isn't there all the time. Ring and HE WILL ask what you want - he knows what he has in stock and if he isn't in will often travel to the shop and open it for you. This is called semi-retirement and knowing who your customers are - most are pro and/or semi-pro and know what they want. More importantly Mick has considerable knowledge and experience, the kind of thing spotty youths in music 'retailers' are unlikely to accumulate by selling fast moving items. More than that Mick can help solve problems - technical or just information, source what you want and will often refer on to someone else he knows can help. Annabelle M - have you ever tried to re-dial a number when you have lost contact. Telecommunications technology is quite transparent in this respect but sadly far from infallible. Mick is a good guy - but get talking in the shop and be prepared for a long, but interesting stay.
After attempting to contact Mr Fat Cat via the means of telephonicommunication I was left positively perplexed. I asked if Mr Fat Cat's shop was open, he replied; "I'm afraid i'm not in today, what is it that you need?". As I opened my mouth and began to talk, utilising the words, "I'm after some bass strings", the cat hung up never to be seen again. Less of a fat cat and more of a fat twat! You make Hardy Smiths shimmer in the moon light!
Best shop in mansfield for bass and guitar. Won't go anywhere else as i know i won't get ripped off like some of the other shops. Excellent service. Throughly knowledgable about guitars and always excellent instuments
