I took my 1953 Split Screen Morris Convertible to Keith and Phil for a ground up restoration. The welding work done by Phil was to a very good standard, however they charged me over 3000 pounds for a respray which firstly was the wrong colour and secondly was painted very poorly. The paint had many runs in the finish and the paint had been scorched through to the primer around panel edges. After visiting their workshop and seeing the job, I had no choice but to take the car away and have it finished elsewhere which included a completely new respray. During the reasembly I discovered that many of the new parts that I had purchased for the restoration were missing and had not been returned to me with the car and one of the new set of tires I bought had been deliberately damaged with a nail hole. I discovered shortly afterwards that the parts that had not been returned with the car were being sold on ebay. I discovered this after searching on ebay to buy replacement parts for those not returned with the car and discovering my parts up for auction ! The car is my pride and joy which had set me at over 17,000 pounds and to have been treated like this was heart breaking. Even today, thinking about what happened is very painful but at least I got my car back at a cost before even more damage was done to it. Incidentally, although the welding work was done to a good standard, the drivers door would not fit and I had to have the Sills cut and the car re-jigged to make the door fit properly. I would not recommend anyone to take their car to these people as you will be ripped off with a poor job at a very high price. I am currently discussing the situation with my solicitor and will most likely persue legal action against these people to recover the costs of the respray and all the missing parts that were not returned with the car. Phil told me that there was only one person that could have done a better job and he died 2000 years ago. At the time he said this, another angry customer had just dropped in to complain about the work done to his car. My wife said that she had a bad feeling about these people when she met Phil and being a complete idiot I told her to stick to her knitting and trust Keith and Phil. She was right all along..... Beware of these people....
I took my morris to these people for some MOT welding work and a full respray. After going to collect the car I was shocked at the poor state of the respray which was full of runs. Phil said that the runs were there before he sprayed the car and he refused to hand over the keys until I paid the 4,000 pounds bill. All in all a shocking experience that I hope others will not experience.
Phil and Keith really know their stuff when it comes to Morris Minors! Their work is of the highest quality and the cars they restore look as good as when they were new!
