Rufford Hotel

After booking tickets to see the Test Match at Trent Bridge, we looked for accommodation close by, within easy walking distance. Wow! The Rufford Hotel. 5 star service at 2 star prices! Perfect you would think?! 2 nights double room, bed and breakfast please at your fine establishment. What an excellent website! WiFi, modem, en-suite, telephone in the room, satellite tv! Everything you could ask for in a hotel. Arrival. Marvellous - looks busy - always a good sign you'd think?! Oh you're down for room 45 but the manager says you're not there anymore, you're in room 27. Ok. Ooooh these stairs are a bit steep. The room is right at the top of the stairs - bit noisy but we've got a fabulous room with all of the above so a bit of noise wont be a problem. Open the door!!! What a hell hole. Twin room. Paint on the carpet. Sink in the corner of the room - drips a bit, sealant is a bit mouldy and chipping off. No phone, no satellite tv, no WiFi, no modem. Empty cigarette packet under the bed, filthy headboard. En-suite the smallest in the world, no hot water AT ALL no privacy as the door doesnt actually close. Hair in the plug hole, dusty walls and shower curtain. The room was so small we had to climb over the beds to get past each other. Kitchen noise at midnight?! The only good thing was a nice breakfast. Still doesnt make up for feeling dirtier coming out of the hotel than when you went in. Oh and they dont care if you've booked for 2 nights, oh no. Come back from day 1 of the Test to find your suitcase in the office and most of your belongings missing. We've double booked the room, I dont give a toss (nice one John the manager) so you're out.
