Jamaican Ways serve a variety of steamed West Indian dishes in their licensed restaurant. Pineapple and Guinness punch are plentiful as are exotic desserts.
Best food iv ever tasted in my life... i could eat it everyday!
Coming from Jamaican parents has obviously influenced what I eat. Jamaican food is a luxury in our house, seen as it's pretty expensive when bought from a Cafe or restaurant, but boy is it worth it!!! Jamaica Ways, situated on Hartley Road, is in my opinion THE best place for Jamaican Food in Nottingham. It used to attracted quite alot of trouble back in the day (Before 2005) so now to deal with this, they close at 6pm, so if you wanna get that food, you better be quick! As you walk you you are greeted by a large menu above your head, showing you everything they sell, soups, rice and peas, curried mutton, chicken, cake, porridge. Just about anything you can think of, they have it. Now the prices to vary, but for the quailty of food and the portions too it really is worth it. There is a small place to sit down, it can sit about 5/6 people but most people tend to eat out. The most known meal from Jamaica is probably curried mutton with rice and peas, this a plate of this, large it will probably set you back around £4.50/£5, which is good as the portion is huge. The mutton is ALWAYS soft and curried just right, not too much pepper and literally just melts in your mouth. They also have fried chicken, curried chicken in different sauces, snapper fish, bream fish, alot of known fish from Jamaica. They also do breakfast, depending on which day you go the menu may be different. Cornmeal Porridge for me has also been a must, and at Jamaica Ways it's around £2 per portion which will full a grown man. They also do Chicken Soup, Fish Soup and Red Pea soup, all of which in my experince have been perfect. You can get a £2 soup, £4 soup or a £1 soup. All of which are good portions of soup. Deserts wise, They do carrot cake, Madaira Cake and apple crumble. You do have the option of having custard but it is extra. They also have drinks typical of Jamaica, Supermalt, Nurishment, Bigga, D&G etc. They also do Guiness Punch which is also a well known beverage in Jamaica, this contains Guiness Beer with condense milk. It doesn't sound appetising but it is a must try. There are numerous dishes which i haven't mentioned but if your in Nottingham and want some good Jamaican food, Jamaica Ways is where it is.
Self Help Nottingham requested a buffet for 9 people which Jamaican Ways provided. People present at the lunch all agreed that the food was excellent and more than enough! So very good value for money. The staff were all pleasant and the person I had contact with who made up the order was patient and encouraged me to see the portions beforehand that would be made up to accommodate the people, before we commmenced with the order. We'd be more than happy to use them again in the future. Thanks Anne-Marie!
